| She is believed to be the Martha Gumbleton who emigrated to Australia with her elder brother Henry and his wife, in 1837.
Martha worked as a maid for one of the sheep barons (the “Squattocracy"! as they were called. In fact she worked for the son (James) of founder of the wool industry, John Macarthur, and her husband Thomas managed the farm at Taralga. "Work was completed by 1844 when Thomas and Martha Denning occupied the house forming a small quadrangle. Denning was appointed overseer (farm manager)”.
